Early Life and Education

Born Adetokunbo Olufela Durotoye on May 12, 1971, in Ibadan, Nigeria, Fela was raised in a family that valued education and excellence. His father, Layiwola Durotoye, was a professor at the University of Ibadan, while his mother, Adeline Durotoye, was also an academic. This background instilled in him a deep appreciation for knowledge and leadership from a young age.

Fela began his primary education at the Staff Children’s School at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, before proceeding to Moremi High School for his secondary education. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with Economics from OAU and subsequently obtained a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the same institution. To further hone his leadership skills, he attended executive programs at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Yale University, and the Lagos Business School.

Professional Career and Leadership Influence

Fela started his professional career in 1992 as a financial analyst at Ventures & Trusts Limited. In 1998, he joined Phillips Consulting Limited, where he headed the customer service department. However, his passion for leadership and human capital development led him to establish V.I.P Consulting Limited in 2000, which later evolved into Visible Impact Limited. This organization is dedicated to leadership development, personal transformation, and social impact.

Through Visible Impact, Fela has trained and mentored thousands of individuals, businesses, and organizations, helping them maximize their potential. His leadership retreats and coaching sessions have been attended by top executives, government officials, and aspiring entrepreneurs both in Nigeria and internationally. The Mushin Makeover Project: A Testament to Social Impact

One of Fela’s most notable initiatives is the Mushin Makeover Project, an urban renewal initiative aimed at transforming one of Lagos’ most underserved communities. Launched in December 2009, the project mobilized over 2,000 volunteers, including celebrities like Banky W, Kate Henshaw, and Sound Sultan, to repaint 296 houses across seven streets in Mushin at no cost to the residents.

The project also provided free training in painting techniques for over 100 unemployed youths in collaboration with Berger Paints PLC. This initiative demonstrated Fela’s commitment to community development and grassroots transformation, reinforcing his belief that social change starts with personal and collective responsibility.

Political Ambitions and Nation-Building

Driven by his passion for national development, Fela ventured into politics, announcing his candidacy for the Nigerian presidency in 2018 under the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) party. He emerged as the party’s presidential candidate and selected Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya as his running mate. His campaign focused on transparency, leadership, and youth inclusion in governance. Although he did not win the election, his candidacy inspired many young Nigerians to take an active role in politics and governance.
